Co-led by Tian Zheng and Nabila El-Bassel, the seminar brings together scholars and practitioners across social work, statistics, computer science, engineering, journalism, business, public health, and policy, with participation from government, civil society, and industry.

This launch marks an important milestone for our AI4SGS project: a shared cross-campus platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on responsible AI that is grounded in lived experience and community-centered practice.

What the Seminar Aims to Do

The seminar is designed as a recurring space for collaboration around core questions in socially responsible AI, including:

Ethical AI governance, accountability, and transparency

Equity and inclusion in AI research and design

Community engagement in the development and deployment of AI systems

As the seminar evolves, it is expected to support new collaborations, white papers, special issues, and project-based initiatives connecting research, education, and policy.

Why This Matters for AI4SGS

For AI4SGS, this seminar strengthens the initiative’s mission to align technical innovation with social responsibility. It creates durable infrastructure for cross-disciplinary exchange and helps ensure that AI systems are evaluated not only for performance, but also for fairness, societal impact, and public trust.
